Learn at your own pace with a patient, experienced instructor

Teaching is my passion and privilege. I specialize in contemporary piano and voice performance, songwriting, and music production. I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels of experience for 15+ years.

My number one goal with students is to foster a creative, supportive, and collaborative environment. Lessons can be explorative, structured, soothing, a fun challenge, or all of the above. Whether you are new to music or are looking to improve your skills, I will provide resources and guidance for how to best accomplish your goals.

I studied music composition and performance at Berklee College of Music and Boston University (Psychology B.A., 2012) and am a member of MTNA. In addition to teaching, I am an independent artist and producer based in Boston, MA. I have written, produced, and performed on a number of EPs, singles, and full-length albums. I’ve also toured with bands and as a solo artist across the US and internationally.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

“You know how when you look back at your childhood and adolescence you remember a handful of teachers who really changed your life? Josh is, all on his own, at least three of them: the wildly engaging one whose enthusiasm for the material is contagious, the unfailingly patient one who gives you confidence to try something new, the endlessly creative one who can turn a spark of interest into a whole fireworks show. We often joke that we’re going to make him sit down and list out all the things he knows so we can hire him to teach them, one by one, to our son. And what’s crazy is that all of the magic that is Josh in person—which is really quite a lot of magic—somehow comes across in virtual lessons too. Absolutely the best music teacher we’ve encountered in cumulative decades of classes, and one of the best teachers, period. So yeah, he’s pretty great.”

“I had the best time taking voice lessons with Josh! I always felt like he was able to meet me where I was and allow me to learn at the pace that made sense for me, while also pushing me a bit where it made sense. I was able to grow as a vocalist without even really realizing it, because I was having so much fun!”

— Maisie (voice, online)

“Josh has been teaching our son (14 years old) piano and voice for over a year. He is an exceptional teacher and musician. Our son is really into musical theater and pop music. Josh has done an amazing job getting him playing and singing the music he loves quickly and successfully. He incorporates vocal and piano technique, music theory, and style into the context of pieces of music our son is motivated to learn, practice, and perform. Josh is incredibly smart and personable. He relates well to our son and has built a strong, trusting teacher-student relationship with him. We have also hired Josh to perform at family events for us. He was incredibly talented and professional. We cannot recommend Josh highly enough. He is fantastic!”

“If you’re considering taking music lessons, now is the time, and Josh is your guy! I’ve taken music lessons with a number of instructors in the past, and they’ve each had their own unique approach to both music and teaching. Working with Josh was the first time that I felt like my music education was a collaborative partnership. Josh was open to meshing my prior musical experience with his expertise and teaching style, and allowed me to choose the direction and pace of my progress while providing the structure and support I need as an adult learner. Whether it’s online or in-person, I can’t recommend studying with Josh highly enough!”
